Your First Step Onto the Ice
Our goal is to provide a fun, welcoming opportunity for you and your child to experience hockey with no cost and no commitment before enrolling in a program or lessons. Certified coaches will guide participants on the ice, while staff and volunteers will help families get properly geared up before the session begins.
Whether you're curious about the sport or looking for a new activity for your child, we invite you to join us on the ice and discover a lifelong passion for hockey.

Recommended for children ages 4–10
No prior skating or hockey experience is required.
REQUIRED GEAR
- Helmet: Bring your own. If you do not have a hockey helmet then a bike,are also suitable.
- Gloves: If you do not have hockey gloves, winter gloves will work.
- Skates: Bring your own or use the available rentals at Cool Sports.
- Hockey Pads: Recommended, but not required.

After completing Try Hockey for Free, participants can continue their hockey journey through our Learn to Play Hockey program.
This beginner-focused program offers weekly instructional sessions designed specifically for children who are new to hockey. Players will build skating skills, learn the fundamentals of the game, and gain confidence in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What to Bring: Gear and Apparel?
While KAHA will provide hockey sticks and pucks for all participants, we ask that you bring your own helmet, gloves, and a warm pair of pants to ensure you're comfortable on the ice. It’s important to dress warmly, as the rink can be a bit chilly.
Do I need a USA Hockey membership to participate?
No, during registration, you will fill out a waiver for the participant, this will ensure you are covered by USA Hockey for your try hockey event. You will receive more information about a USA Hockey membership after your try hockey event.
What if the participant has no hockey or skating experience?
That's great! We love introducing new players to the sport of hockey. Your athlete will be on the ice with certified coaches and instructors who are there to help players of all abilities and show them how FUN hockey is for everyone.
What if the participant is outside of the 4 to 10 age range?
Come on out anyway! We love introducing new players to the sport of hockey.

USA Hockey certified coaches will be helping to safely guide players on the ice and help will be provided in the lobby to get geared up for a great experience!
