Skill Development Series

The KAHA Skill Development Series is designed to help players build confidence and elevate their hockey skills in a fun, supportive learning environment. Players are encouraged to challenge themselves, try new techniques, and strengthen areas of their game that translate directly to practices and competition.

Sessions are led by experienced KAHA coaches and focus on age-appropriate instruction covering both fundamental and advanced skills that can be immediately applied during games and team practices.

PREREQUISITES

Is Your Player Ready?

Before joining the Skill Development Series, players must have basic skating and stick-handling skills to ensure a safe, fun, and successful experience on the ice.

Required Prerequisites

To participate in the Spring League, players must complete the following programs:

🧊 Little Preds Learn to Play (LTP) Hockey

🐾 Lil Wild (formerly LTP 2.0) — one to two sessions

Completion of these programs ensures players have the foundational skills, confidence, and game awareness needed for league play.

Skills Sessions

Skills Sessions focus on building confidence so players are comfortable and effective in game situations. Through repetition and structured training, players develop:

  • Proper skating technique
  • Strong puck-handling skills
  • Passing and shooting fundamentals

Small Area Games Sessions

Small Area Games are high-intensity, game-like drills played in confined spaces (one zone or less). These sessions maximize:

  • Puck touches
  • Decision-making
  • Player engagement

Overspeed & Edge Sessions

These skating development sessions are designed to push players outside their comfort zone while focusing on the core skating skills required to succeed in hockey.

Session Focus Areas

  • Edge work and edge control
  • Change-of-direction skating (stops, starts, and pivots)
  • Quickness and lateral movement
  • Skating efficiency and strength
  • Skills both with and without the puck

Hockey is a game of constant movement and rapid direction changes. These sessions are specifically designed to develop the skating ability players need to perform at a higher level.

Groups

Basic & Intermediate

For ages 7+ who want to improve their fundamental skating skills. This group is ideal for players up to age 15 playing in house-level leagues.

Advanced

  • For ages 11+ who are looking to develop more advanced skating skills and are currently playing at a travel or prep hockey level.


SPRING / Summer SEASON 2026 (18-WEEKS)

Day: Monday

  • Spring Session: March 16 – May 18
  • Summer Session: June 1 – July 20

Individual Registration

Spring (9 Weeks): $299 + processing fee

Summer (8 Weeks): $279 + processing fee

Spring & Summer (17 Weeks): $499 + processing fee

Discounts

Goalies: 50% registration discount

Multi-Session Discount:

Players receive 15% off when combining Spring and/or Summer League registrations.

Discount will be applied to payment plans.

Practice Times

  • Group #1: 5:40 - 6:40 PM
  • Group #2: 6:50 - 7:50 PM


Overspeed & Edge 2026 (8-WEEKS)

Day: Wednesday

  • Dates: June 3 – July 22

Individual Registration

Summer (8 Weeks): $279 + processing fee

Overspeed & Edge (8 Weeks): $279 + processing fee

Summer & Overspeed & Edge: $499 + processing fee

All-in Skills (Spring, Summer, & Overspeed): $749 + processing fee

Rate: $40 per session
